Special Award for Design Excellence 2001 granted to
Skil angle grinder Smartset
Skil Europe has once again received the Good Industrial Design acknowledgment from the Dutch Stichting Goed Industrieel Ontwerp (Good Industrial Design Foundation).
Following the success of the company's hammer drills (1998), heat gun and belt sanders (2000), Skil has received this month three new acknowledgments: the Skil 5246 circular saw, the orbital sanders range including the Fox 2-in-1 sander (Skil 7340, 7210 and other models), and the angle grinders range (Skil 9165, 9370 and other models). The Special Award for Design Excellence confirms the user-friendly concept of the Skil angle grinder Smartset.
Special Award for Design Excellence Skil angle grinder Smartset: user-friendly
Angle grinders are mostly used for cutting, grinding and de-rusting jobs, whether in metal or stone. These products therefore demand high standards for safe and comfortable working. Skil's unique 'Clic' system meets this need with a safety guard that can be adjusted correctly within seconds, and quick, easy changing of
the grinding disc. The Skil Smartset goes even further; everything consumers need for safe, comfortable working is offered in a plastic carrying case containing a Skil angle grinder, gloves, ear protection, safety glasses as well as additional grinding discs. This means consumers can start their do-it-yourself jobs safely in an instant, without time-consuming searching for all the accessories they need.
This Skilsaw has been designed to offer the best handling, the best quality of cut and the highest functional performance in the 46 mm segment. Above all it is a non-threatening circular saw with comfortable and safe operation,
exceptionally low noise and vibration levels and an 'anti-wiggle' device that prevents the saw from rocking on the workpiece. The ergonomic grip design and safety switch (left- and right-handed) for optimal control and guidance further contribute to safe and comfortable operation, while the 40 handle, the same as on handsaws, offers an optimal hand/arm position. All these features make the Skil 5246 another safe and user-friendly tool from the inventor of the circular saw.
The Skil orbital-delta sander is as smart as a fox. It allows users effortlessly to alternate between smoothing large surfaces and finishing-off hard-to-reach corners.
All they need to do is take off the small front part of the foot and replace it with the delta-tip. With the unique 'Clic' system, this takes only a few seconds. In this way users can switch sanding surfaces without the need to use any screwdrivers or other tools. The ergonomic design of the complete new sander range give users an optimal grip in any working position, even during longer periods of sanding. Equipped with Velcro paper fastening (models 7210, 7330 and 7340), these tools enable users to change paper without the use of a clamp or other grip. In no time the old sheet can simply be ripped off and a new one attached.
