Why cycling?

Skil has been sponsoring a cycling team since 2005 but it is not the first time the Skil name has been emblazoned across a cycling jersey. The relationship with cycling goes back to the 1980s, when Skil was main sponsor of a professional cycling team. Gerrie Knetemann, Sean Kelly and Eric Caritoux were all part of that successful team.

‘We were looking for possibilities to publicise the name and cycling has proven to be a great platform for that, as it did in the past,’ says Robert de Rooij, Skil’s Marketing Director Europe. ‘Skil is an international brand. We are active in 66 countries. That’s why an international cycling team that participates in races in different places across the globe suits our marketing strategy so well.’

The Skil-Shimano cycling team has its own website (in four languages), with race reports, interviews, rider diaries, results and background information on the team. Fans can also keep up to speed on team developments by subscribing to a newsletter.
